Archeologen hebben een groot granieten hoofd van ex-farao Amenhotep III opgegraven nabij Luxor. Het beeld, ter grootte van een mens, is nog in perfecte staat.

Amenhotep III is één van de bekendste farao’s van Egypte. Hij was de opa van Toetanchamon en regeerde ongeveer 3400 jaar geleden.

Expeditieleider Hourig Sourouzian is zeer blij met de vondst. “Bij andere beelden is vaak iets gebroken: het puntje van de neus bijvoorbeeld. Maar dit beeld is, van de kruin tot de kin, zo mooi gebeeldhouwd, er is niets gebroken”. Hij vond het beeld in de ruïnes van een tempel.

Hundreds of geometric monuments unearthed deep in the Amazon may have been left behind by a previously unknown society, say scientists.

De herkomst is onbekend en het schrift kan tot op heden door niemand worden ontcijferd. Uiteindelijk is het voorwerp in handen gekomen van NASA, maar ook zij konden er niets mee, volgens Zilverberg. Wetenschappers wereldwijd kunnen niets anders concluderen dan dat het object van buitenaardse oorsprong moet zijn…
